Membership Info

Membership in the Bonita Springs Genealogy Club is open to all. Our monthly meetings are held at 10 AM on the second Thursday of each month, and are usually held at the Bonita Springs Public Library.

Where is the Bonita Springs Library?

The library is located at 26876 Pine Avenue in Old Bonita, to the north of West Terry Street. If you take Old 41 to West Terry, and turn West, Pine Avenue will be the third street on the right.

Membership Dues:

Annual membership dues are $10.00 or $15.00 for a husband and wife membership.

Our membership year runs from October through September.

What are the Benefits of Membership in BSGC?

Membership is open to individuals at all levels of genealogical experience. Meeting with others who share an interest in genealogy is both fun and informative. Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 10 AM, and are very informal. Meetings usually begin with a brief business session, followed by a planned presentation, usually dealing with some aspect of genealogy research, and designed to include helpful research ideas, topics of genealogical interest or historical information to supplement your research. We welcome guests and new members at all of our meetings. Occasionally, reservations are required for special sessions, due to limited space in our meeting room.

All members and guests have ample opportunity for networking with others at each of our meetings. Informal discussions create the perfect opportunity for sharing research, asking questions and problem solving. During the summer months, meetings are typically very casual, affording plenty of opportunity for you to discuss things of particular interest to you. Members enjoy long lasting friendships with people who share their interests and encourage their ongoing research efforts.

Our members often contribute periodicals, CDs, and other literature which are then made available to the membership, providing additional avenues to further their individual research. Many of these may be checked out and returned at a future meeting.

Guest speakers are frequently invited to share on specific topics of interest to the group, and are often able to answer questions and/or remove walls to further genealogical research.

Our membership is kept informed on upcoming genealogical events in nearby communities, and sometimes attend these events as a group. Some even take "field trips" to other libraries throughout the state or across the country to places like Salt Lake City, Utah (the mecca of genealogical research), in an effort to further their research. As a member of the BSGC, you will have the opportunity to join others for such events.

Assistance from other club members is as near as the telephone or your computer keyboard. Many of our members are knowledgeable about local and online resources, or can direct you to someone who has the expertise you need.

With the recent addition of our BSGC website, at www.BSGen.org, members have the opportunity to post questions, contribute information, add links of general interest to genealogists, and enter discussion groups with other genealogists who visit our site.

Members of the BSGC can obtain their own email address, with their name followed by @BSGen.org, which can be setup as a Pop3 email account to receive mail directly on their computer, or as a forwarder, to automatically forward all emails sent to that address to the accounts the now utilize.

Members of BSGC will be kept informed of meetings, upcoming events, and other items of interest by email distribution lists, which will be periodically generated to all who wish to receive them.

What could be better than to be a member of a group where all share a common interest, yet everyone is permitted to become as involved or as uninvolved as they choose? Why not consider joining us at our next regularly scheduled meeting? ... Then, if you like us, you can join us... and if not, that's OK too! ... but then, we can't imagine anyone not liking us, so we know you'll want to join BSGC too!
